Tehran

 

As the capital, Tehran, with 14 million people, is the most populated, the most cosmopolitan and the largest city in Iran. Tehran is located in the north center of the country, at the southern foothills of the Alborz.

A gigantic city; this is just what’s there today! Tehran, a beautiful village in the mid 18th century, attracted the attention of the Qajar king, Agha Mohamad Khan, who set it as his capital. Since then, Tehran grew on, sluggishly though, into the present huge city, the economical, political and cultural center.

Tehran has more than 20 museums, the best of which are as follow:

Iranian National Museum; Reza Abassie(Art Museum); Carpet Museum; National Jewels Museum; Glassware & Ceramics Museum; Sahebgharaniye Museum; Golestan Palace Museum; Niavaran Palace Museum; Sabz(Green) Palace Museum; Calligraphy Museum; Ethnological Museum; Tehran Museum of contemporary art and Azadi Tower cultural complex.

There are also some activities going on in the suburbs like:

Skiing, mountaineering, fishing and hunting.

The ski resorts include Dizin, Shemshak and Tochal that attract a lot professional and non-professional skiers from the regional countries or overseas.

The mountain summits including mounts: Tochal; Darake; Darband; Kolakchal and Golabdare.

Concerning fishing and hunting, the plentiful, various types of prey turn the countryside into a hunters’ Paradise
